MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. Originally it was intended as extension of e-mail standard so that people can use different character encodings and send non-text attachments like pictures, videos, office documents etc. Over time MIME standard became widely used in WWW to specify content type being transfered by HTTP protocol.

mimeapplication.net collects and catalogs mapping between strings that are used to identify different content types and applications and file extensions associated with that type. We try to maintain the most complete mime type database on the internet. If you don't see some mime-type in our database, you can submit it for inclusion
